FF beaten to death in arbitration, two held in Tangail

Police arrested two persons from Tangail on the charge of killing of a freedom fighter Abdul Latif Khan, 65, in the local arbitration.
The arrested are identified as Liton, 40, and Uzzal, 38.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Basail Police Station Harunur Rashid said, showing them arrest in the case, the two accused were produced in the court on Saturday noon.
According to Locals, there was a dispute between freedom fighter Latif Khan and neighbour Abu Khan and his sons Pavel and Parvez over fish of two ponds. Arbitration was held in the backyard of local Union Parishad (UP) member Shahjahan Khan’s house on Friday afternoon to resolve the issue.
At one stage of the arbitration, some people including Abu Khan, Pavel and Parvez beat Latif Khan and injured him. Later, locals rescued him and took him to Tangail General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
OC Harunur Rashid said police recovered the body of the deceased. “Necessary actions will be taken in this regard.”
UP member Shahjahan Khan said men from the both parties were injured in the skirmish during an arbitration over a trivial matter. “The freedom fighter died. It is a matter of great sorrow for us.”
