Election fever has gripped Chittagong city over the forthcoming Mayoral election .
Only three days left to submit the nomination papers for Mayor and councilor posts . BNP centrally yet to declare the participation in the mayoral election whereas rumors spreading in the grass-root levels about the nomination of incumbent Mayor M Manzoor Alam but formally not yet declared the name Manzoor Alam as Chittagong City Corporation mayor candidate by the party’s high command.
In the meantime, former Minister Amir Khasru and Abdullah al Noman have already welcomed the nomination of the incumbent mayor recently at BNP’s Gulshan office.
Meanwhile, a section of Chhatra Dal activists brought out a procession in the city area on Tuesday evening in favour of Mayor candidate Dr. Shahdat Hossain who is also the General Secretary of Chittagong City BNP . The procession its carried banners and posters in favour of aspirant Shahdat Hossain and burnt the effigy of the incumbent Mayor Manzoor Alam .
On the other hand, city BNP leader Advocate Abdus Sattar himself collected nomination paper for mayoral election from the local election office on Tuesday evening .
Overall it is assumed that internecine quarrel within the party may arise over the nomination of mayoral candidate to Manzoor.
Earlier Amir Khasru and Abdullah al Noman already denied to contest the post to party high command.
In the meantime, ruling Awami League has already declared the name of Mayor candidate AZM Nasiruddin for CCC election and the incumbent ministers, MPs from Chittagong also patronising the Mayor candidate for wining in the race. Mentionable that an ext ended meeting of city, Norlth and South district AL held in Chittagong with Minister Engr. Moshraf in the chair.
The meeting was addressed by the Minister for Housing and Public Works Engr. Mosharaf Hossain, former Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud, former legislator Md. Ishaq Miah, AL City President and former Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury , former Minister Afsarul Amin, President of North and south district AL unit. The ward AL leaders from different wards were also present in it.
Sources said , a 501- member committee headed by former lawmaker Ishaq Miah as President and Mohiuddin Chowdhury as Member Secretary for conducting the mayor election.
