Internal feud between the two groups of pro-Awami League teachers of Chittagong University has come to light again over the vice chancellor post as the four-year office period of the existing Vice Chancellor Professor Anwarul Azim Arif will be expired by June 15.
Sources said, the they have launched their campaign to concerned quarters to nominate their vice-chancellor while the existing VC Arif is headed for the race.
Earlier, the two groups were estranged over dean election, teachers’ association polls, syndicate election and senate voting. However, in the whole elections, the VC group trounced the opposite group.
The two groups are : Halud Dal ( Yellow panel ) under the banner of Bengali nationality and the ideology of the Liberation War, headed by the current VC Arif and another one Bangabandhu Adarsho Bastabayan Parishad by Dr Gazi Saleh Uddin, a professor of the Sociology Department.
Sources of the two groups told this correspondent that some senior teachers including Dr Gazi Saleh Uddin and Prof Dr Golam Kibria of Bangabandhu Adarsha Bastabaion porisod left the Halud Dal announcing the staring committee of Holud Dal as illegal one in 2012.
Following the acquittal, they gave their aspirants in the dean election in 2012 in contrast of the Halud Dal and were trounced fully to the Halud Dal. After that they also gave their aspirants to the teachers’ association pool, synet pool and syndicate pool but their aspirants were beaten by the Halud Dal.
Meanwhile, the existing VC group became stronger following the whole election was sided to the VC group as the counter group became cornered like BNP and Jamaat-backed teachers. Following this infighting, addressing the vice-chancellor Prof Anwarul Azim Arif as a fake freedom fighter, a freedom fighters’ local organization demanded his removal alleging corruption , nepotism against him .
