Ferry services resume

The ferry services resumed on the Paturia-Daulatdia and the Aricha-Kazirhat routes on Thursday after 36 hours of suspension due to the inclement weather and damage to the landing stations.
Assistant Director (Traffic) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Md Faridul Islam confirming the news said, the services resumed at 7:30 pm of Thursday after the weather became favourable. The decision of suspension was taken to avoid untoward incident.
The ferry services on the Shimulia-Kawrakandi route was running at a small scale from Thursday morning to mitigate passengers’ suffering.
Hundreds of passengers on Thursday were waiting on both sides of the river. A small number of launches were sailing in the river to transport passengers.
But the landing stations No. 2 and 4 of Daulatdia ferry terminal has not yet been repaired.
The speedboats also resumed their services from Aricha to Kazirhat in Pabna in the Padma river which remained suspended due to the rough weather from Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, the overall Flood situation of the country improved further, as the major rivers registered further fall.
Rainfall was recorded 139 mm at Bandarban, 115 mm at Jessore, 113 mm at Chittagong, 108 mm at Barisal, 107 mm at Lama, 75 mm at Rohanpur, 64.4 mm at Satkhira, 57.5 at Bhagyakul, 51.6 mm at Ramgarh, 45.8 at Chapainawabganj.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.
