Country’s one of the noted Nazrul Sangeet artistes Ferdous Ara is getting offer to do acting regularly after starting her career in the field of music. But she never acted in any movie till now.
Ferdous Ara informed that in 1973 or 1974, late director Azmal Huda Mithu offered Ferdous Ara to be a heroine after watching a programme on BTV. But Ferdous Ara and her family did not think to be engaged with acting during that time. She also got offer to play the lead role in movie Surjo Dighol Bari. This time she didn’t get the scope for acting. This singer also got offers for acting from Kolkata. Samaresh Majumdar, Sunil Gangopadhyay, among others invited Ferdous Ara for acting there. But Ferdous Ara never thought anything except rendering song. This time Ferdous Ara has changed her mind set. She wants to do acting in movie not in television drama.
While talking in this regard, Ferdous Ara said, “If any movie is to be made on Kazi Nazrul Islam related and if there is scope to play in the pivotal role, then I have interest to work in the big screen. But I don’t know when my dream will come into true. I think if I get the opportunity to play an important role in a Nazrul related movie I will get peace.”
It is noted that in 1973, Ferdous Ara enlisted as a singer on BTV and Betar. Her debut solo album was released in 1985 under the banner of Sargam where the singer rendered 12 songs took place. After that a compilation of songs of yesteryears were released on CD and audio cassette with the title Akasher Mitimiti Tara, which got huge appreciation from the music-lovers during that time. Ferdous Ara received the Best Vocalist award in UNESCO organised 5th Folk Festival in Uzbekistan. The singer got this award among participated singers from 52 states.
Ferdous Ara has been teaching students at Nazrul Institute for a long time. She last lent her voice for a playback song in Goutam Ghosh directed movie Shankhachil. Ferdous Ara also worked as music composer in a movie titled Bastobota, which story is based on disabled people. In 2000, own initiative the singer started her music academy Sursoptok. She has published two books titled Sangeet Bhubone Nazrul and Sonchitar Kothabarta.
