Ferdausi Rahman is an icon of the music arena of Bangladesh. She is a folk, Tagore, Nazrul and play-back singer at a time. During childhood she started to flourish her career in music which continues till now. She got Ekushey Padak, Lifetime Achievement Award in the National Film Award, many more. In 1948, she first rendered song for Khelaghor on Betar. In movie Asia, she first lent her voice for play-back song titled
O mor kalare, which music was composed by the singer’s father folk emperor Abbasuddin and lyrics were written by Abdul Karim. But she debut her career as a play-back singer by movie Edesh Tomar Aamar. Ferdausi Rahman was born on June 28 in 1941 in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, India. Today she will turn into 80. Due to corona pandemic, she has no special plan to celebrate her birthday. While talking in this regard she said, “I have turned into 80 today. Due to corona, I did not come out from home for last one and half years. Allah knows we can recover from this pandemic. At home, I like to hear songs of Shahnaz Rahmatullah, Runa Laila, Sabina Yasmin, Kanakchapa, Shakila, Alam Ara Minu. Therefore, I like hear songs of Bappa Majumder, Nancy, Kona, Yousuf, among
others. But I want to say that now who, are practicing music, they do not render songs following grammar. Basically music is a work of devotion. To learn music, there is no short-cut or alternative in this field. However, I wish everybody’s success.”
Ferdausi Rahman completed SSC from Bangalabazar Govt Girls’ High School, HSC from Eden College, Honours and Masters in Sociology from University of Dhaka, and later also completed certificate course on ‘Staff Notation’ from Trinity College of Music, London under the scholarship of UNESCO. She is still popular among all as Khalamoni for BTV’s Esho Gaan Shikhi. She lent her voice for play-back song for 260 films. She has recorded more than 5,000 songs including 3 long plays, 500 disk records and 20 audio cassettes.
Ferdausi Rahman tied the nuptial knot with mechanical engineer Rezaur Rahman on October 26 in 1966.
