Ferdausi Rahman, Syed Abdul Hadi receive ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’

Feroza Begum was the legendary artiste of Nazrul Geeti who dedicated her whole life to these songs. Dhaka University introduced Feroza Begum Memorial Trust Fund under
the financial support of ACI Foundation to keep up the memory of Feroza Begum alive. University of Dhaka introduced the Award named ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’ in 2016. This is an attempt to honor the accomplished artiste of the country and to encourage the new generation to practice pure native music every year. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this event could not take place in 2020 and 2021. This year eminent singers Ferdausi Rahman and Syed Abdul Hadi have been nominated for this prestigious ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’ awards for 2020 and 2021, respectively.
The ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’ award giving ceremony was held on at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka on Wednesday.
The Chairman of ACI Foundation and the donor of the ‘Feroza Begum Trust Fund’ M Anis Ud Dowla has delivered the welcome speech recalling a few memories of the artiste Feroza Begum’s contribution, sacrifice and devotion towards Nazrul Geeti.
The Gold Medals were awarded to the Artistes by the chief guest of the event, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr Md Akhteruzzaman.
Professor Dr Muhammad Samad, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (administration), the Treasurer (in charge) of the Dhaka University and the Chairman of ‘Feroza Begum Trust Fund’ presided over the programme. Dean of the Arts Faculty, University of Dhaka, Professor Dr Abdul Bashir, was also present as the special guest on the occasion.
Chairman of the Music Department,University of Dhaka Professor Dr Debproshad Dawn gave vote of thanks to conclude the illustrious programme.
