A Feni court has opened the trial of suspended madrasa principal SM Siraj-ud-Daula, a key suspect in the killing of his student Nusrat Jahan Rafi in an arson attack.
Women and Children’s Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mamunur Rashid,
who is presiding over the case, issued an order on Monday.
The court set October 27 for recording witness testimonies, said Hafez Ahmed, Hafez Ahmed, the state prosecutor.
Siraj is the prime accused and charged with ordering the fatal arson attack on Nusrat at the Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrashah.
He was in jail at the time of the attack in a case for alleged sexual abuse of Nusrat.
Siraj’s followers Shamim, Zobair, Moni, Poppy and Jabed set Nusrat on fire on the roof top of the madrasa when she refused to drop the sexual abuse charges against Siraj on Apr 6, police had said earlier citing their confessional statements given to court. She lost the battle for her life five days after the attack.
