Dr Sazzad Hossain, the Civil Surgeon of Feni, died of coronavirus on Tuesday while undergoing at a hospital in Dhaka.
He breathed his last around 5:40pm at the ICU of Asgar Ali Hospital, said Shahidul Islam Kawsar, Feni unit president of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA).
Dr Sazzad was diagnosed with coronavirus on June 12. He was admitted to Feni General Hospital on June 24 with respiratory problem. Civil Surgeon was taken to Asgar Ali Hospital on June 18 as his condition worsened.
Civil surgeons in several districts of the country have been infected with the coronavirus, but this is the first time a civil surgeon has died.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh registered 3,027 more coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours till Tuesday, raising the total to 168,645.
Besides, the total deaths in the country have jumped past 2,150 to reach 2,151 with the deaths of 55 more Covid-19 patients during the period.
Of the deceased, 46 are men and 9 are women.
