A female tourist drowned in the Bay of Bengal, and four others were injured while bathing in the sea beach at Kalatali point here on Saturday noon.
The deceased was identified as Asma Begum, 45, wife of Shawkat Kabir Ershad at Rampura area in capital Dhaka.
The victim’s brother-in-law Anwar told journalists that, a 21-member family came to Cox’s Bazar on July 29 and boarded the Sea Crown Hotel at Kalatali point. On Saturday 12pm, they went to the beach and were bathing in the Bay, but suddenly five of them drowned and were injured. Beach workers and members of tourist police rescued and admitted them to different hospitals, but Asma died at emergency department of Sadar Hospital after some time, said duty doctor Nobel Kumar Borua.
Senior Assistant Police Super of Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemy said, the body was brought to morgue.
