Staff Reporter :A female teacher was killed by an unidentified assailant during a birthday celebration in the capital’s Mohammadpur area on Monday night.The victim has been identified as Krishna Kaberi Biswas, 34, a teacher of Mohammadpur Mission International College and wife of Shitangshu Shekhar Biswas, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).Krishna came under attack along with her husband Sitangshu, 39, daughters Sruti Biswas, 14, and Aduri Biswas, 6, on her flat on Iqbal Road around 9:00pm.Shitangshu, Sruti, and Aduri, were admitted to Dhaka Metropolitan Hospital in the capital’s Mohakhali area, police said. Quoting the victim’s family members, Mohammadpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azizul Haque said: “Shitanshu’s birthday was on Monday. A man, carrying a cake, requested Shitangshu to eat it, addressing him as ‘sir’. Once Shitangshu ate the cake, he fell down on the floor of the room. The assassin then hit him (Shitangshu) on the head by a heavy ‘object’. On hearing the noise, Shitangshu’s daughter Aduri and wife came to the scene and the man struck them also with sharp weapon. Shitangshu’s elder daughter started screaming and informed it to their relatives over phone. The man then torched the house releasing flammables he brought with him. He threw Shitangshu’s injured wife into the fire.” The neighbours came to the flat after hearing the screaming of victim’s elder daughter, the police official said. Neighbours took them to a hospital at Shyamoli. Krishna Kaberi was shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) as her condition deteriorated.She succumbed to her injuries around 3:00am, the OC said. A BRTA official, named one ‘Jakir’ is responsible for the attack, the OC added.The police official said that ‘Jakir’ also manager of a broker house named Haji Ahmed Securities, might be responsible for the attack.”We are investigating if the murder was linked to any previous feud,” he added.The body had been handed over to the family after postmortem in the afternoon, he added.
