Gulshan attack: Female suspect held in Narsingdi

The investigation agency on Thursday arrested a female suspect from Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi district in connection with the Gulshan Holey Artisan Bakery attack. A special team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Ruma Akhter, 30, from a char area suspecting her involvement with the terrorist attack.Contacted, superintendent of police (SP) of Narsingdi Amena Begum admitted the arrest, saying the Detective Branch (DB) of DMP arrested the female suspect.However, it was not clear whether the arrestee is the female suspect identified in the video footage released by Rapid Action Battalion. On July 1, militants entered the Holey Artisan Bakery and opened fire and took around 40 people, including restaurant staff and guests- both locals and foreigners.Thirteen people, including three foreigners, were rescued while 20 bodies of the hostages, including 17 foreigners, were recovered from the restaurant after a successful operation codenamed ‘Thunderbolt’ by Bangladesh Army on July 2. Five militants and one of their suspected associates were killed during the commando operation. A case was filed with Gulshan Police Station in connection with the incident. Newly formed CTTC unit of the DMP has been carrying out investigation into the incident.
