A female garment worker drowned and five others were also injured as a passenger-laden trawler capsized in the Sitalakhya River in Tanbazar Kheya Ghat area in the city on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shilpi Begum, 25.
Police said the trawler capsized as another trawler hit it in the area around 10.00am while it was coming to Tanbazar Kheya Ghat from Bandar School Ghat, leaving Shilpi dead on the spot and five others injured.
Police seized the trawler responsible for the accident and arrested its driver.
The injured were admitted to different hospitals of the city.
Sub-inspector Jashim of Narayanganj river police outpost confirmed the incident.
