A three and a half years old female child named Khadiza Aktar, daughter of one Abdul Hadi Mallik (and his first wife) of village Sonakhali under Morrelganj Upazila in Bagerhat was allegedly poisoned to death by her step mother Sima Begum (30) on Friday afternoon, according to a report received here.
It is allegedly reported that out or zealously in the afternoon Sima Begum, the second wife of Abdul Hadi Mallik mixed poison with milk and fed the deceased the same. As a result, the child died on the spot. Then she threw the dead body into a nearby pond in order turn the matter into other way. After the recovery of the child it was rushed to Morrelganj Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared it dead. After the incident step mother Sima Begum has been absconding.
K M Azizul Islam, Officer-n-charge of Morrelganj PS told, in order to ascertain the reason of the death of the child the dead body was sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital (for autopsy). In this connection a UD case was lodged with The PS.
