Champions of Group-A Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra will face the runners-up of Group-C Chattogram Abahani Limited in the first quarter-final of the Walton Federation Cup Football at the country’s prime venue Bangabandhu National Stadium today. The match kicks-off at 4.00pm. Private satellite channel T Sports will telecast the match live from the big bowl.
Sheikh Russel could only one time play in the final of the Federation Cup. In the year of 2012, they clinched the Federation Cup defeating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited by 2-1 goals in the final. In that year, they clinched the title of Independence Cup Football and also Bangladesh Premier League crown. In the previous year, they failed to reach the quarter-final stage.
Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra defeated Bangladesh Police by a solitary goal in their first Group-A match on December 24. They beat Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 3-2 goals in their last group-A match on December 30. Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra became champions of the Group-A bagging six points from two matches.
On the other hand, Chattogram Abahani Limited moved into the final in the year of 2017. But they conceded a 3-1 goals defeat to Dhaka Abahani Limited in the final and finished runners-up. Last year Chattogram Abahani Limited suffered a 0-2 goals defeat to Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited in the quarter-final and bade good-by the Federation Cup Football.
This year they beat Rahmatganj MFS by a solitary goal in their first Group-C match on December 25.
They lost to Bashundhara Kings by a solitary goal in their second Group-C match on December 28. After earning three points from two matches Chattogram Abahani Limited became the runners-up of the Group-C.
