Chattogram Abahani Limited moved into the semifinals of the Walton Federation Cup Football beating Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra Limited by two goals to nil in the first quarter-final match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
The stipulated ninety-minute match ended in a goalless draw. Thus the game was turned into the extra 30-minute time.
Chattogram Abahani Limited and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Limited got a good number of chances in the allotted ninety-minute match. But the players of the both teams failed to convert those chances into goal.
After the ninety-minute match, Rakib Hossain of Chattogram Abahani Limited broke the dead-lock by a left-footer in the 17th minute of the extra-time.
Mannaf Rabbi of Chattoram Abahani Limited got the ball from his teammate Charles of Ivory Coast. After dodging past two defenders of Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Limited Mannaf Rabbi sealed the fate of the match in the 24th minute of the extra-time.
Earlier, in the 67th minute of the play Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra Limited were awarded a penalty-kick. But their Brazilian recruit Lopez’s shot was saved by Chattogram Abahani’s custodian Nayeem. Thus Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Limited bade good-by to the Walton Federation Cup Football.
Today Saif Sporting Club Limited will face Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited in the second quarter-final match at the same venue. The match kicks-off at 4.00pm. Private satellite channel T Sports will telecast the match live from the big bowl.
