The fearful genocide of 1,500 innocent Bangalees committed by the Pakistani occupation forces in Badarganj upazila on April 17 in 1971 still testifies the heinous crimes against humanity.
District Muktijoddha Commander Mosaddek Hossain Bablu said the terrible genocide flashed the War of Liberation further when hundreds of people of Rangpur region started joining the Mukti Bahini to ultimately snatch away the complete independence.
The crimes were committed simultaneously when the provisional government of Bangladesh government was taking oath at Baiddonathtola in Meherpur giving the history of Independence and War of Liberation a decisive dimension on that day.
The occupation forces committed the genocide at Jharuarbeel and Padmapukur area in Badarganj when our National Flag was just hoisted in presence of hundreds of Freedom Fighters (FFs) and local and foreign journalists at Baiddonathtola, he said.
According to the elderly citizens and local FFs, the occupation forces with their local collaborators, razakars, al-badars, al-shams led by Behari war criminals Bachchu Khan and Kamruzzaman came to Badarganj from Parbotipur by train in the morning.
Soon they surrounded Bakshiganj, Boiragipara, Dakshin Buzruk, Buzruk Hajipur, Khalisha Hajipur, Ghatabeel, Ramkrishnapur, Bansbari, Baniapara, Khoddabagbar, Msandoba, Taxerhat, Kishamat Ghatabeel, Konapara, Mandalpara, Goydapara, Kuthirpara, Khiarpara, Telipara, Bozarapara, Kamarpara, Sarkerpara, Khijirerpara, Maddyapara, Balapara, Bittipara, Bagbar, Sarderpara and other adjoining villages.
The occupation forces started killing Bangalee men, women, and children irrespective of their caste, creed and religion, set fire and looted properties, raped, violated and tortured hundreds of the daughters of this soil till the noon.
Later, they caught some 1,500 innocent Bangalees of all ages, took them to nearby Padmapukur and Jharuarbeel areas and opened brass fire killing them on spot defeating all previous atrocities committed against the humanity in the world history.
