UNB, Dhaka :
A Bureau of Federal Investigation (FBI) team may arrive here this week to assist and collaborate with Bangladeshi law enforcement agencies to investigate the murder case of blogger Avijit Roy.
“The FBI team is likely to arrive in Dhaka this week,” Joint Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Monirul Islam told a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Tuesday.
As both Avijit Roy and his wife Rafida Ahmed Banya are US citizens, it is natural that the United States would show interest
to investigate the killing of its nationals, he said, adding that the FBI is yet to officially contact them.
“The FBI will deploy a small team to Bangladesh shortly,”
Spokesperson of the US Embassy in Dhaka Monica L Shie told UNB on Tuesday.
She said, the US Embassy’s FBI representative has been in contact with Avijit’s family and is communicating with the police here.
In particular, Monica said, the FBI is able to provide valuable technical assistance with regard to transnational aspects of the investigation.
