The elections to the apex business body of the country – the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) for 2015-17 will be held on May 23.
The election schedule was announced on Tuesday after the meeting of the election board held at FBCCI Bhaban, according to a press release.
Election board chairman Ali Ashraf MP presided over the meeting while board member Shamsul Alam and KM Manjurul Haque Lavlu were also present.
As per the schedule, the last date for paying the due subscription fee is March 24 while the last date for submission of nomination for general members is set for March 25.
The primary voter list will be published on March 30 and the final voter list on April 9. The last date for submission of the nominations for the post of directors is set for April 19.The elected directors will elect the president and two vice-presidents for FBCCI on May 25.
The tenure of the present board of directors of FBCCI ended on November 30, 2014 as the election was scheduled to take place in December. But it has been delayed upon FBCCI request to the Ministry of Commerce.
Noted industrialist and Nitol-Niloy Group Chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmad will contest the election for the post of President.
He will formally start his election campaign on Wednesday from Chittagong and will meet business leaders at Agrabad Hotel in the port city, said another press release.
