The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Saturday greeted Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury for being elected Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Executive Committee.
The apex trade body in a statement said the success has brightened Bangladesh’s image at the global stage. “We, on behalf of the private sector, congratulate her. It’s a rare achievement for the nation.”
Appreciating Speaker’s role in multiple areas, the FBCCI hoped that Dr Shirin would play a strong role in expanding Bangladesh’s relations with the international community through the CPA leadership.
Earlier, Dr Shirin was elected Chairperson of the CPA Executive Committee defeating her lone rival Juliana O’Connor-Connoly, Speaker of the legislative assembly of Cayman Islands, by three votes.
