FBCCI for improving Chattogram Port services

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) yesterday called for improving the different services at Chittagong port to make the country’s business activities more vibrant and effective.
The business apex body made the call at a meeting of the FBCCI Standing Committee relating to Shipping Ministry (Maritime Port) at FBCCI board room in the city, according to a press release.
The speakers mentioned that lose of businesses has been decreased due to improvement in container congestion situation. They also urged the authorities concerned to keep a particular portion of the bay terminal for containers.
Chairman of the committee Dr M Pervez Shazzad Akter presided over the meeting.
At his speech, Dr Shazzad urged the government for upgrading the toll road into six lanes for smooth transportation of the containers. He hoped that the container congestion situation will be further improved in coming years by sincere effort of the Railways Ministry, Road Transport and Bridges Ministry and the Chittagong port authority.
Among others, FBCCI Vice President M Muntakim Ashraf was present at the meeting. To make country’s business activities more vibrant and effective FBCCI stressed on improvement of different services at Chittagong port. The FBCCI leaders discussed about the development of container congestion in Chittagong port, construction of Jetties and other issues.
Speakers at the meeting mentioned that the lose of businesses has been decreased due to improvement in container congestion situation by sincere efforts of FBCCI and the Chittagong Port Authority Chairman. They emphasized on speedy completion of construction works of the Potenga terminal.
Besides, they also urged the government to keep a particular portion of the bay terminal for containers.
They mentioned that, the problems regarding lighter ships has been improved, but the private jetties of Chittagong Sadarghat needs to be constructed permanently. They also mentioned about building few jetties in the Narayanganj BIWTA. It will lessen the demurrage of mother vessels and will make the goods load-unloading smoother, a CPA sources said.
Co Chairmen of the committee Ahsanul Haque Chowdhury, Mahbub Chowdhury, Captain Shahed Chowdhury and Shamsuzzaman Rasel participated in the discussion. Members of the committee also took part in the discussion.
