FBCCI for bold steps to develop tourism industry

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Saturday expressed its firm determination to work for further developing the tourism industry.
The apex trade body of the country at a meeting of the FBCCI Standing Committee relating to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism also expressed its willingness to work with the government bodies to tap the huge potentials of this sector, said a press release.
At the meeting, Shomi Kaiser, Director in- Charge of the committee, focused on a detailed plan of the committee identifying the problems of tourism sector, airport services and civil aviation management.
The discussants highlighted the huge potentials of the tourism sector of Bangladesh. They mentioned that Bangladesh can be a significant destination for tourism not only for visit, but also for textile tourism, art-culture tourism, religion tourism, fashion tourism and media tourism.
The release said the government has also put due emphasis in this sector announcing the ‘Tourism Year’. To attract more tourists, there is a need to upgrade the airport facilities and services, they mentioned.
The meeting was informed that the FBCCI will have meetings with the authorities of the airports for solving the prevailing problems. The meeting also opined that there must be a ‘research cell’ to monitor the number of foreign tourists including their interests and preferences.
The meeting decided that the FBCCI will work as a pressure group to solve the problems regarding tourism development and airport services. It also decided to hold a seminar next month with the minister for civil aviation and tourism.
Presided over by the Chairman of the committee Taufiq Uddin Ahmed, President of Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) Taufiq Rahman, and Secretary General of Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) M. Shahadat Hossain, spoke, among others at the meeting. Directors of FBCCI also attended the meeting.
