FBCCI discussion on customs, VAT and related issues

A discussion meeting between a delegation led by Dr. Moshiur Rahman, Economic Advisor of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the business leaders of FBCCI was held on Thursday at FBCCI board room. Dr. Moshiur Rahman led the delegation of Finance and Planning sub-committee of Bangladesh Awami League. The meeting discussed on Customs, VAT and Tax related issues. Tipu Munshi, M.P, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Home Affairs was present.
FBCCI President Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) presided over the meeting while its senior Vice-President Sheikh Fazle Fahim, Vice-President Md. Muntakim Ashraf and the Directors were present. Representatives of the FBCCI sub-committees on VAT, Income Tax etc. also attended.
Business leaders at the meeting raised various problems regarding customs in their trade and export-import business. They also mentioned the harassment of the NBR officials in collecting VAT. They also demanded to lessen the Bank interest rate at single digit.
Dr. Moshiur Rahman, said that they have sit with the business community of the country to listen their problems as advised by Prime Minister. They will have regular contact with the business leaders while formulating any law/act regarding business-trade of the country.
FBCCI President mentioned that the country has achieved 7.86 percent growth.
The total export of the country is currently more than $37 billion, he added. But he demands easier business policy and customs- VAT acts to expedite the business activities. If there is more business friendly environment, the business community of the country could contribute more significantly in the development process.
