Business Desk :
With an appeal to do business honestly, the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Thursday urged local traders not to increase prices of daily commodities illogically ahead of Eid-ul-Azha as it causes huge sufferings to people from all walks of life.
FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin made the call at a view exchange meeting with stakeholders on import, stocks, supplies and prices of essentials at FBCCI auditorium in Dhaka.
He also requested general people not to resort to panic buying as it creates an unstable situation in the market.
Jashim termed the price hike of the staple food during the peak season of paddy harvesting as certainly irrational.
“After discussing the matter with different businesses, I have understood that there are sufficient stocks of rice, onion, edible oils, and spices. So, there is no reason to increase prices of the essentials ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.”
Mentioning that unscrupulous traders make the market unstable, he urged the government to monitor the market properly for its stability ahead of the festival for the Muslims.
“The government should impose a ban on exporting packaged rice and enact separate laws for companies selling those. The authorities should fix prices of the packaged items as well.”
