The High Court on Monday ordered the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the apex trade organization of the country, to dispose of a petition filed seeking correction of its voter list within seven days.
The court also issued a ruling in this regard asking the authorities to explain as to why the voter list prepared without disposing of the petition that sought correction in the list should not be declared illegal.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir passed the order
after holding hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.
Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared in the court on behalf of the writ petitioner, while deputy attorney general Bipul Bagmar represented the state.
Later Mr Khusrhid Alam Khan said, “Election of the Board of Directors of the FBCCI will be held on May 5 this year for two years term of 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. Bangladesh foodstuff importers & Supplier Association (BAFISA) is a member organization of the FBCCI. As per rule five representatives of BAFISA will be the voters in the FBCCI election. But no one was included in the voter list from the association.”
“In this circumstance leaders of the BAFISA have submitted an appeal petition to the FBCCI authorities as per Trade Organization Rules 1994. But they didn’t dispose of the petition. Then BAFISA secretary Anwar Hossain on behalf of his organization filed a writ petition with the HC for the remedy,” added the lawyer.
After hearing the petition the HC ordered the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) to dispose of the petition within seven days and also issued a ruling.
