A court here on Sunday convicted four members of a family for killing a housewife in 2006, and sentenced two of them to death and the two others to life imprisonment.
The condemned convicts are Mohammad Khalilur Rahman, 55, and his son Mohammad Ismail, 35, of Tafalbaria village in Patharghata upazila. Khalilur was tried in absentia.
The lifers are Khadiza Begum, 40, 1st wife of Khalilur Rahman, and Khushi Begum, 28, wife of Ismail.
According to the prosecution, Khalilur Rahman along with the other
convicts stabbed Tajinur Begum, 25, 2nd wife of Khalilur, to death after taking her to Pajraphuta on December 20, 2006 over a land-related conflict with his father-in-law Mohammad Abdur Rashid.
Police recovered the body of Tajinur following the statement of her two daughters. Abdur Rashid filed a case in this connection.
After examining the records and witnesses, Session’s Judge Moha-mmad Nazrul Islam handed down the verdict.
