Gournadi upazila administration under Barishal district on Friday afternoon foiling an attempt of early marriage fined father of the bride Tk.5 thousand.
Israt Jahan, Upazila Nirbahi officer of Gournadi, said they received information about holding a marriage between 14-year old class eight student and daughter of Shahin Sardar of Tikasar under Gournadi municipal town with Rubel Bali, son of late Maqbul Bali of Kachua under Wazirpur upazila on Friday after Juma prayer at the house of the bride.
Then officials of upazila administration and women affairs office along with members of law enforcing agencies and non-government organizations rushed to the spot and challenged and foiled the programme.
The mobile court led by UNO fined Shahin Sardar, father of the bride, Tk 5 thousand and took a written bond not to give her daughter marry till crossing her 18 years of age, the UNO told.
