Police arrested a man allegedly for ‘killing’ his six-year-old daughter at Jalshi village in Dawarabazar upazila in the district on Wednesday.
The deceased was Maisha, 6, daughter of the arrested Mamunur Rashid of the village.
Quoting local people, police said Mamunur cut-off fingers of Maisha’s hand in a bid to win a dispute over land, by hiding Maisha in a room for three days while scapegoating his sibling brother over the incident.
On information, police rescued the girl from the house and sent her to Sylhet MAG Osmani Hospital where on duty doctor declared Maisha dead, said Shushil Ranjon, Officer-in-Charge of Dawarabazar Police Station
