A man was sentenced to life term on Sunday for raping his seven-year-old daughter in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh area in April, 2018.
Judge Begum Shamsunnahar of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 of Dhaka pronounced the verdict in presence of the lone convict Akter Sardar in a packed courtroom, said
Advocate Fahmida Akter Rinky, a lawyer for the victim. The judge also fined the accused Tk 50,000, in default the man will suffer six more months in the prison, she said.
In the verdict, the judge said that the prosecution proved the charges against the accused beyond doubt, and he was handed down the highest punishment for his offences.
According to the case documents, Akter raped his seven-year-old daughter at his rented house in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh area when the complainant [victim’s mother] went to a nearby house for prayers on the night of April 15, 2018.
Following the incident, a case was filed with Hazaribagh Police Station against the accused on May 3 of that year. Police arrested the accused in connection with the incident, and he confessed his involvement to the incident.
On December 11of the year, police submitted the charge sheet in the court against the lone accused. The court framed charges against Akter on April 3, 2019.
The court recorded the depositions of nine prosecution witnesses in the case and considering the evidence and the case docket, the judge pronounced the verdict on Sunday.
