UNB, Jessore :
Engineer Nurul Islam, father of Dr Shamarukh Mahjabin who was found dead at her in-laws’ house in the capital on November 13, on Sunday expressed doubt about whether the second autopsy report will be given properly.
He expressed the doubt at a press conference at the Jessore Press Club in the morning.
At the press conference, Nurul claimed he came to know that the team formed to conduct the second autopsy on the body of her daughter is ‘under pressure’.
On December 4, the body of Dr Shamarukh Mahjabin was exhumed at ‘Karbala Graveyard’ in the district town for re-autopsy.
The body was exhumed following a court order after a petition filed by victim’s father, Nurul Islam. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bikash Kumar Saha of Dhaka on
November 25 ordered the exhumation. After collecting samples, the body was buried on the same day.
On November 13, Mahjabin, wife of Humayun Sultan Sadab, the eldest son of Khan Tipu Sultan, an Awami League leader and former MP from Jessore-5, was found dead at their Dhanmandi residence in the capital.
Mahjabin was studying FCPS at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on completion of MBBS from Holy Family Medical College in Dhaka.
Later, police arrested her husband, Humayun, in connection with the murder. However, Khan Tipu Sultan and his wife Dr Jasmine Ara were granted bail by the High Court in the case on November 16.
Mahjabin’s in-laws claimed that she committed suicide by hanging herself from the grill in her room with a scarf.
Nurul Islam filed a murder case against Khan Tipu Sultan, his wife Dr Jasmine Ara Begum and their son Humayun. According to the case records, Humayun used to torture his wife- both mentally and physically. Mahjabin faced strong opposition from her in-laws when she had expressed her interest to appear in the 35th BCS examination.
