After 12 hours of murder of a woman and her son in Kalrail, a father and his daughter were killed by some unidentified miscreants in a flat at Moinar Bagh graveyard road in the city’s North Badda on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Jamil Hossain Sheikh, 38, a driver by profession and Nusrat, 9, a student in second grade at a local school.
The bodies were recovered and sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue in the morning.
Arjina, the wife of Jamil, has been taken in police custody for questioning, police said.
Badda Police Station Office-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Wajed Ali said police rushed to the house, located beside Moinar Bagh graveyard road, on information around 7:30am.
“Jamil and his family rented a flat on the third floor of the four-storey building. Police found the two bodies in the bed. Jamil’s wife Arjina and her five-year-old son were sitting on the stairs,” the police official said.
“Marks of injury could be seen on Jamil’s head and we believe his daughter was suffocated,” he said.
“Arjina is now distraught. We will question her once she recovers. A couple had sublet the apartment, but we have had no word about them,” the OC said.
Monir, a relative of Jamil, said the victim hailed from Banagram Sadar Upazila and had been living in Badda for the last 18 years. They moved to the third floor apartment two months ago.”
“A few days ago my uncle (Jamil) argued with my aunt (Arjina) and she went to her mother’s house in Savar with their son. My uncle and Nusrat were alone in the house. About a week ago, my aunt returned home.”
In addition to driving, Jamin also lent money to locals, Monir said. He could not say if Jamil had been arguing with anyone over the matter.
“When I went to the house his body was covered in a blanket. The head was bleeding profusely. I think he was struck in the head with a sharp weapon. The girl was next to him,” said a local Tuhin Islam.
“I asked her what had happened. She said that around 10:00pm or 11:00pm some people came and killed them. “But I went around 6:00am. The blood was still fresh. I think it may have occurred only an hour or two ago,” he said.
Earlier, one Shamsun Nahar and her son Shaon were found dead with their throats slit in a building in Kakrail on Wednesday evening.
