UNB, Brahmanbaria :
A man has confessed to killing his three minor children one after another in Nabinagar upazila over the last 25 years for personal gains.
The man, however, managed to get away with the murders by implicating his rivals in the killings.
Saju Mia, a resident of Kurighar village in the upazila, made the confession to the court of Brahmanbaria Senior Judicial Magistrate Sultan Mohamamd Sohag Uddin under section 161 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) on Monday that revealed his involvement in the murder of his own children.
Mesbah Uddin, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Nabinagar Police Station, said Muzahid, a 10-year-old boy of Saju Mia was found dead near a water body, adjacent to the Eidgah of the village on Sunday last. A rope was found entangled on his neck, he added.
Later, Sahana Begum, mother of the victim, filed a case with Nabinagar Police Station.
Police detained Saju Mia over the incident on Monday and after interrogation, Saju confessed that he strangled his son with the rope and confirmed his death by hitting on his face with a chunk of soil.
Saju did this for getting money by implicating one his rival in the murder, the OC added.
Quoting locals, police said Saju’s three-year-old son Obaidul was found dead near a jute field 24-25 years ago. Later, Rakib, another three-year-old son of Saju was found dead 8-10 years ago.
In the Obaidul murder, Saju blamed many people, including Sajed Ali and Kuddus Ali, over the murder, and they were fined in an arbitration arranged by some local influential people.
But in Rakib murder, Saju failed to blame anyone, rather there had been an allegation against him of the murder. Babul Mia, a member of ward No 2 of Natghor union, said, We suspected Saju for the murder in the beginning and the suspicion grew stronger when he remained inactive in the house after the news of Muzahid’s murder.
