Gulam Rabbani :
After completion of all the processes, 2155 candidates were finally selected in last December as the assistant teachers for the government high schools. But they could not join in their respective workplaces although five months elapsed from the date of final selection.
As a result, frustration has overwhelmed many selected candidates. Many are passing days with hardship.
Abdullah Al Mamun, one of the selected candidates for the posts, said, “After completing all the steps the Public Service Commission (PSC) on December 29 in 2020 recommended for appointing 2,155 assistant teachers at government secondary schools across the country. But in the last five months we have not had any police verification or health check. As a result we could not join our workplaces yet which has created frustration among many of us.”
“It is very tough to get a job, especially a government job in our country. Again, when you remain unemployed for a long time even after getting a job, it is more painful,” said another selected candidate on condition of anonymity.
Sources said, personal information on the candidates has been collected three months ago. But the verification process has not been completed yet.
When there were crisis of teachers in 319 government secondary schools across the country according to the officials of the Education Ministry, teachers were recruited for those schools in 2011 for the last time.
Later many teachers were also recruited from the BCS non-cadre candidates in the government high schools. However, enough subject wise teachers were not found among the BCS non-cadre candidates. In addition, most of the teachers who have from BCS non-cadre list finally moved to other jobs. As a result, the shortage of teachers remains in high schools.
Considering all these aspects finally, the PSC published a recruitment circular in September in 2018 to recruit subject wise teachers in the government high schools. Written test of the circular was held in September in 2019. After taking the viva-voce, the PSC published the final list on December 29 last year and recommended 2155 candidates for appointment.
An attempt was made to contact the Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), Prof Dr Syed Md Golam Faruk, on his mobile phone but no statement was received.
