Faruque Hassan, managing director of Giant Group, formally takes charge of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) as president as the platform’s board of directors has elected him as the panel leader on Tuesday.
Hassan replaced Rubana Huq, managing director of Mohammadi Group.
Hassan’s panel Sammilita Parishad won 24 posts of directors out of total 35 in the biennial election of the BGMEA held in Dhaka and Chattogram to elect office bearers for the 2021-23 tenure. The election was held on April 4.
The elected board of directors also selected seven other vice presidents for the tenure in a meeting in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The vice presidents are: Syed Nazrul Islam, S M Mannan Kochi, Shahidullah Azim, Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, Miran Ali, Md Nasiruddin and Rakibul Alam Chowdhury.
In the BGMEA election another panel Forum, led by ABM Shamsuddin, chairman of Hannan Group, could bag only 11 posts of directors.
