Staff Reporter:Cattle farm owners in Rangpur area who lost their cows or buffalos on account of zoonotic diseases got Tk 21 lakh and 20 thousand as compensation from the government.
It was the first time in Rangpur division to give such compensations among the affected farm owners.
The compensations have been paid under the project of ‘Strengthening veterinary public health service to protect human health’.
Compensation checks were distributed on Monday among the farm owners in the conference room of the Department of Livestock, in Rangpur.
Ismail Haque, Director of the Department of Livestock of Rangpur division presided over the programme, while Dr. Sheikh Azizur Rahman, Diector General of the Livestock department was present as the Chief Guest.
Livestock Officers Dr. Shariful Islam and Dr. Sirajul Islam, among others, were present.
Officials distributed checks amount among 32 cattle farms owners in the programme.
Dr. Sheikh Azizur Rahman said, cattle are mainly died from main four zoonotic diseases-bovine tuberculosis, brucellosis, anthrax and rabies.
He said that this programme has been taken to create awareness about the diseases among the cattle farm owners.
Dr. Md. Azizul Islam, Project Director of ‘Strengthening Veterinary Public Health Service to protect human health’ said the government has taken the project in 28 district’s 201 upazilas to enrich Livestock Sector and cattle farms in the country.
The cattle farmers will get the facilities till June 2023, he added.
He said also that the capabilities of laboratories of the veterinary public health were increasing constantly to protect domestic animals health.
Besides, farm owners Fatima Begum and Al Mamun expressed their views in the programme.
They thanked the government for stand beside the harmed farmers.
