The government will distribute free seeds and chemical fertilisers among over two lakh farmers in 26 districts,
said Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury on Sunday.
Of the farmers, 86,475 are in 14 flood-hit districts while 1,18,540 in 12 southern districts, the minister said at a press conference at the Secretariat.
Matia said, the free distribution of the agricultural inputs will cost the government about Tk 23.98 crore.
She said, the farmers in the flood-stricken districts will get the seeds and fertilisers as part of their rehabilitation while those of the southern districts as stimulation.
The 14 flood-hit districts are Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Rangpur, Gaibandha, Bogra, Sirajganj, Tangail, Mymensigh, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Netrakona, Sylhet and Sunamganj.
The 12 southern districts are Jessore, Narail, Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalakati, Patuakhali, Barguna, Bhola and Gopalganj.
Some five lakh farmers were recently affected by flood as about 89,092 hectares of land went under water damaging 2,34,837 metric tonnes of crops worth Tk 695 crore in the 14 districts, Matia told journalists.
