Farmers of Raghunathpur union under Sadar Upazila in the district are passing busy time for winter vegetables cultivation in the current season.
According to official sources said, a total of 2825 hectares of land have been brought under winter vegetables cultivation where production target fixed at 29,070 metric tonnes (MT.)
Sources said, farmers of Sadar Upazila in the district have been vegetable cultivating 940 hectares of land of them about 200 hectares in Rghunathpur UP and production target 2058 metrict tonnes (MT). They are cultivating different kinds of vegetables like ‘lal shak,’ spincah, basil, mushroom, gheea chandarn, bindweed, cauliflower, cabbage, kohlrabi, coriander, radish etc. and they export their producing vegetables to another district including capital, farmers said.
Barun Kanti Biswas (55) of village Silna under Raghunathur union of Sadar Upazila in the district said, he cultivating Red leafy and spinach vegetables on 30 decimal of land near his residence.
He has spent Tk 8,000 but in the meantime he has sold Tk 15,000 from his vegetable produces and he can sell Tk 7,000 to 8,000 more from his field if the weather condition is fabourable, said Barun during visit his field.
While talking to Samir Kumar Ghowshami, Deputy Director , Agriculture, Gopalganj told this correspondent that fertile soil and weather condition is favourable .Besides, our field workers closely monitoring the crop as a result farmers are excepting excellent production in this region, he added.
Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC), Gopalganj are providing quality vegetable seeds among the farmers in order to increase its production. Besides, Kashiani Bank has provided easy- term loan among farmers to make the efforts a success.
