Farmers losing cattle in Zoonotic disease get compensation

Farmers got compensation for losing their cattle infected with Zoonotic diseases in Khulna Division.
The Department of Livestock Services (DLS) on Thursday distributed around Tk 10.8 lakh as compensation among the victim farmers of the region who have lost their cattle in Zoonotic diseases at a programme organized in its Jashore regional office.
Khulna Divisional Director of the DLS Dr Sukhendu Shekhar Gayen and Project Director of ‘Veterinary Health Service Strengthening to Protect Public Health Project’, Dr Azizur Rahman jointly handed over the compensation among the victim farmers.
District veterinary Officer of Jashore, Dr. Md. Rashedul Haque presided over the programme.
Dr Azizur Rahman said the department has already distributed Tk 1.09 crore among the farmers while some more Tk 40.8 lakh would be distributed within June this year under the project.
He said that the Veterinary Health Service Strengthening to Protect Public Health Project’ is underway in 201 upazilas of 27 districts.
Officials said Zoonetic disease is transmittable from animals to humans. The project has been taken to identify the risk of contamination of the disease among human and to strengthening veterinary laboratories across the country.
Under the project Tk 80,000 for a cow and buffalo and Tk 40,000 for losing a calf will be given till 2023, officials said.
