Good number farmers of Gunaher, Chamrul, Gobindapur, Zianagar and sadar unions of Dupchanchia upazila under Bogura district are passing busy time to cultivate early winter cauliflowers from last week.
They are optimistic to harvest the crops from first week of November if the weather condition remains favourable across the region. They are expecting to become self-reliant growing the vegetable.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken a target to bring 400 hectares of land under early winter cauliflower cultivation this season. The farmers have already planted the high yield cauliflower sapling after tilling the cropland smoothly on 300 hectares of land.
The peasants will bring more crop land next rabi crops season, said sub-assistance agriculture officer Faridur Rahman. They have ensured measure steps to make the cultivation a grand success, he added.
Due to vast profit, the early winter cauliflower farming is increasing in the region. The farming will create job opportunity among the marginal day labourers across the area.
Farmer Amir Hossain, 55, under sadar union said he has cultivated cauliflower on 25 decimal of land spending Tk 2,000 and hopes to sell at Tk 25 thousand this season. Meanwhile he had made over Tk 5000 last year from 4 decimal of land.
If the farmers have been provided all sort of necessary agri-input, the farmers will grow average 36 to 30 metric tonnes of yield from each hectare. The farmers show more interest to bring the crop land under cauliflower cultivation as they had made a good profit previous year.
Upazila agriculture officer Golam Mustafa said the extreme poor peasants of the upazila mostly depend on agriculture based rabi and Khorip crops round the year. We provide all sort of logistic support among the eager farmers, he added.
