Tomato is generally known as a winter vegetables but it has been producing not only in winter but also in hot weather in Bogra.
In running season, summer tomato has been producing in different areas under Dhunat upazila of the district.
It is learnt that poison free summer tomato has been growing in grafting method for the first time in Dhunat upazila. The rapid growing of tomatoes produced much response among the farmers of the area. Many of them are planning to start summer tomato cultivation in future.
In a local observation in Mathapara village under the upazila, summer tomato field has been seen.
Abdul Latif, a farmer of Mathapara village of the upazila said, besides tomato cultivation he do tomato business in winter. During business, he made an introduction with a person who worked in Dhaka Agricultural farm, advised him to cultivate poison free summer tomato. Now he is doing well acting on the advice.
He informed that many tomato plants die due to different diseases in winter. Moreover he cannot cut reasonable profit as tomato is available in the market during winter. So he thinks of summer tomato cultivation avoiding winter.
At the beginning, he took preparation to produce summer tomato on 5 decimals of land. He brought the saplings from Dhaka Agriculture Farm with the cost five taka each plant. He planted -high-bred tomato saplings on 5 decimals of land . That cost him 25 thousands in total.
To save the tomato field from the exterior heat and rain, he made encamps of polythine paper over the field. No chemical needs to use to inveterate the tomatoes. It takes 2-3 days to ripe after plucking up from the field.
