Farmers at Durgapur and Raghunathpur Union in Sadar Upazila are being benefitted greatly from read leafy cultivation. The crop is being selling at lucrative price in the local markets recently.
A large number of marginal and small farmers mainly in Dumrashur, Katorbari, Malibata, Golabaria, Nelokhi & Hatigata in Durgapur union and Noldanga, Digarkul, Silna, Singarkul, Charpara & Ghoshgati in Raghunathpur union under Sadar Upazila in Gopalganj district have been cultivating on red leafy vegetable and they more benefited from it produce to sale the markets.
According to Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Agriculture Office, a total of 107 hectors of land have been brought under red leafy cultivation in Sadar Upazila of them 32 hectors in Durgapur and Raghunathpur union where production target at 194 metric tonnes (Mt).
Which market price is about taka 41,90,000. About 350 vegetable farmers involved this vegetable farming.
Sushil Gharami (48), a vegetable farmer of village Dumrashur under Durgapur union of Sadar Upazila in the district said, he cultivated vegetable origin Altapeti on 42 decimal of land, this beginning winter season where spending taka 2,100 but I will got about 14 maunds of vegetable from it produce which market price is taka 11,000 if the weather condition is remain unchanged. Not only that a farmer can earned a good profit in a short duration from this vegetable farming, Sushil said.
Atul Krishna Bala (60), another farmer of village Katorbari in Durgapur union under Gopalganj Sadar Upazila of the district told The New Nation he cultivated vegetable on (26 decimal) of land origin rakta ranga the growth condition of it satisfactory & I got 8 maunds of vegetable from it produce if the weather condition remain satisfactory, which market price is taka above 6,000. One stage Atul said, the present market price is good & per maunds (40 kg) is being selling at the rate of taka 800, he said.
Rathindranath Barai (45), a vegetable farmer of village Noldanga of Raghunathpur union under Sadar Upazila said, he cultivated red leafy (lal sakh) origin ”grita kanchan” on local one bigha (52 decimal) of land the growth condition of it is satisfactory if the weather condition is remain unchanged. I got 15 maunds of vegetable from it produce, which market price is taka 12,000 where spending taka 3,000, Rathindranath said.
Romen Majumder (50) another farmer of village Digharkul under Raghunathpur union in Sadar Upazila told The New Nation he cultivated vegetable on two local bighas (104 decimal) of land this beginning winter season. Where spending about taka 7,000 but there is no using any chemical fertilizer & even though the growth condition is good, if the climate remain unchanged but I expect a good profit like about taka 25,000 from my vegetable field, Romen said.
Md. Mizanur Rahman, Upazila Agriculture Officer (UAO), Gopalganj Sadar told The New Nation the soil condition in this region is more fertile & favourable weather condition besides technological assistance is being given to the farmers to make them interested to cultivate vegetable, UAO said.
