After huge losses in the last season due to sharp fall in rice price and damage by recent floods, farmers here have started dreaming of having bumper T-Aman production this year, thanks to the favourable weather.
The farmers are expecting a very good yield as they have already exceeded the cultivation target. Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) targeted T-Aman cultivation on 1.24 lakh hectares of land this year in 10 upazilas of the district but it was cultivated on 1.30 lakh hectares, which means an additional 6,000 hectares of land were brought under cultivation.
Md Habinur Rahman, deputy director of Netrakona DAE, said the cultivation target has already exceeded in Sadar, Barhatta, Atpata, Kendua, Purbadhala, Khaliazuri, Mohangonj, Madan, Kalmakanda, and Durgapur upazilas. Rahman said commercial banks, especially the Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB), has provided soft loan to the farmers.
Golam Mustafa, a model farmer of Mongalshidhya village in Atpara upazila, said the famers are now delighted with the hope of bumper T-Aman production. DAE officials said despite the damages by floods this year, the farmers have successfully overcome the situation and now waiting for the outputs.
Some farmers of Durgapur and Kalmakanda bordering and hilly areas said T-Aman plants grew well following the recent rainfall after a temporary draught-like situation here.
Motior Rahman, 35, a farmer of Bausam village in Kalmakanda upazila, said he did not face any trouble when he was planting T-Aman seedlings this year. The BKB and other commercial banks, including NGOs, provided short-term loans to the farmers to cultivate paddy, he said.
19 thousand 912 MT Aman collection targets set in Naogaon

During the current Aman season, farmers will be able to register paddy sales at government warehouse through mobile phones at home. Food Department has taken this initiative to stop farmer harassment. During the current Aman season, 19,912 MT of paddy will be collected in the food warehouses of four upazilas of Naogaon. According to the District Food Office sources, the information will be purchased at a price of Tk 26,000 per metric paddy for Rs. It is learned that in the current Amon season, 1000 MT of Naogaon Sadar Upazila, 526 MT of Atrai Upazila, Raninagar Upazila 1861, Mahadebpur Upazila 2910, Patnitola Upazila 2886, Dhamurirhat Upazila 2031, Sapahar upazila 1242, Porsha upazilas 1732 mt, Manda upazila 1253 mt, Badalgachi upazila 1417 mt and Niamatpur upazila 3054mt.
District Food Controller Farooq Hossain Patwari said government has decided to make harassment friends and buy rice from the actual farmers. We are working hard to make that decision of the government a hundred percent success. He expects that farmers who are now registered will not have any problem to feed in the warehouse. If the broker tries to gain interest in collecting Farya’s cycle, it will be useless.
