Farmers of all six unions under Dupchanchia Upazila of Bogra district are expecting bumper sweet potato output in this current season due to favourable weather condition and timely supply of necessary agri-impute.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office source, over 200 hectares of land have been brought under sweet potato cultivation in last December taking logistic support from authority concern aiming bumper production and good fair. They will harvest the lucrative crops from middle week of March across the district if the weather condition remains favourable, DEA added.
“I had brought 0.23 acre of land in experiment basses last year spending Tk 2200 for paying fertiliser, labour and seed cost and made over Tk 10000 from the crop land as I got a good market price.” said grower Nur Islam of the upazila. He also expresses “So, I have brought 0.20 acre of land under the crop cultivation costing Tk 5000 with 30 mound of production target in this season borrowing Tk 2500 from local NGO.”
The authority concern expose, the growers are optimistic over achieving 30 to 35 mounds of sweet potato yield from each bigha of land across the upazila of the district in this season. They also said, the farmers would like to sell newly harvested each mound of crops by Tk from 700 to 800 in the retail market.
While visiting the correspondent found, the farmers of the upazila are passing busy time rearing the crop land. The sweet potato cultivators of all twelve upazilas of the district are showing more interest to grow more crops. Besides, sweet potato cultivation is gaining minimum getting repeated bumper production and well market price across Bogra district from last five years.
Sub-assistant agriculture Officer Shah Alom of DAE said, the farmers of the district will bring more 20 hectares of crop land under sweet potato cultivation coming season.
We have taken praiseworthy steps to make the programme a grand success, he added.
