Harvest of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) rice continues in full swing predicting bumper output in Rangpur region this season.
“The farmers have already harvested Aman rice on 1.58-lakh hectares of land around 27 percent of total cultivated land area of 5.93-lakh hectares in the region,” said Regional Additional Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Md Shah Alam.
The farmers have so far produced 4.64-lakh tonnes of Aman paddy in terms of clean rice with an achieved yield rate of 2.93 tonnes per hectare.
“The farmers have cultivated T-Aman rice on 5.93-lakh hectares of land against the fixed target of farming the crop on 5.26-lakh hectares of land to produce 14.59-lakh tonnes of rice this season in all five districts under the region,” Alam said.
The farmers have exceeded the fixed farming target of T-Aman rice by 66,797 hectares of land or 12.68 percent than the fixed cultivation target this season in the region.
“We are expecting a bumper production of Aman rice exceeding the fixed production target as the farmers are getting excellent yield rate this season,” Alam predicted.
Deputy Director of the DAE at its regional office Md Moniruzzaman said the farmers have so far harvested hybrid variety of T-Aman rice on 37,036 hectares of land and high yielding variety on over 1.21-lakh hectares of land.
“The farmers are expecting a bumper production as its harvest continues in full swing with excellent yield rate,” Moniruzzaman added.
Horticulture Specialist of the DAE Khondker Md Mesbahul Islam said the farmers have already sowed early potato in 15,185 hectares of land and winter vegetables 17,740 hectares of land after harvesting Aman.

Najirdigar here said that they got excellent yield rate of T-Aman paddy this season.
Local paddy traders and farmers said that Aman paddy is being sold at rates between Taka 830 and 900 per mound in local markets.
More efforts needed for development of marginalised communities: Former Advisor to the Caretaker Government Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman here yesterday laid emphasis on continuous efforts to enhance the development of marginalised communities to desired levels.
“Bangladesh has made commendable advancement in addressing challenges of poverty though poverty is a multi-dimensional reality-Exclusion and marginalisation together is one feature of this reality,” he said.
