A Dhaka court has placed former chairman of the Farmers Bank’s Audit committee Mahabubul Haque Chisty (Babul Chisty) on a two-day fresh remand in a case filed over embezzlement of Tk 160 crore.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Fahd Bin Amin Chowdhury passed the
order after hearing in the case on Thursday. Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Shamsul Alam, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Chisty before the court and sought a five-day remand for him on the completion of five-day remand. ACC’s lawyer Mohammad Abul Hasan prayed to the court to grant the remand petition for the accused while advocate Mahfuz Miah sought bail for the accused repealing the remand prayer.
Hearing the both sides, the court granted a two-day remand for Chisty rejecting the bail prayer. Earlier on April 10, the court placed former chairman of the Farmers Bank’s Audit committee Mahabubul Haque Chisty (Babul Chisty) and his son among four on different terms of remand in a case filed over embezzlement of Tk 160 crore. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Golam Nabi passed the order. The other convicts who were remanded are Rashedul Haque Chisty, son of Mahabubul Haque Chisty, Masudur Rahman Khan, first president of Farmers Bank , and Zia Uddin Ahmed, senior vice president of the bank. Of the accused, Mahabubul Haque Chisty was placed on a five-day remand while the other three on a four-day each. Earlier, Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission Shamsul Alam produced them before the court and sought a 10-day remand for each.
The other accused of the case were known as Ruzi Chisty, wife of Mahabubul Haque Chisty, and Delowar Hossain, incumbent senior executive vice president of the bank (former manager of Gulshan Corporate Branch).
