The water level in the rivers flowing through the haor zones in Kishoreganj, Netrokona, Sunamganj, Habiganj and Sylhet disricts has increased due to the flood water coming from the upstream. The district administration and the Agriculture Department have, as such, asked the farmers to cut the paddy, as it is, before washed away by the flood water.
At this, the Water Development Board (WDB) says that the water level in he rivers and haor area through Kishoreganj disrict is also rising, and the water level in the Dhanu River in Kishoreganj and Netrokona is above the danger level by 22 cm on Tuesday morning
By this time, the water in the Meghna, the Kalni and the Kushiara rivers has touched the danger level. Boro paddy has
been planted in one lakh and four thousand hectares of land in three haors at Itna, Mithamin and Ashtagram of Kishoreganj during the current season.
About 35 percent of paddy has been harvested so far. Although the crop protection dams are still intact, the locals are fearing flooding due to early floods.
About 17 days ago, about 800 hectares of land was washed away by the floods.
The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Deputy Director (DD). Saiful Islam told the New Nation, paddy is being harvested in full swing in Haors.
At least 250 combined harvesters are being used for harvesting paddy. Besides, a lot of workers from other districts are also working. However, he said that harvesting would be a big challenge as the water level was rising.
Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) Executive Engineer in Kishoreganj Engineer Matiur Rahman said that no dam had been broken in Kishoreganj so far.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Kishoreganj Mohammad Shamim Alam told the New Nation that the crop protection dams are still intact. Damaged dams have been repaired. Administration assured the peoples of all kinds of government assistant as may be required.
