UNB, Sherpur :
A farmer was beaten to death over a trifling matter at Bausha in Nakla on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Azim Uddin, 50, son of Year Mahmud of the upazila.
Mushfiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nakla Police Station, said a goat gone astray destroyed Azim’s chilli and betel nut plants.
An altercation ensued between the goat’s owner Sajib Mia and Azim, and at one stage, Sajib along with others beat Azim mercilessly with sticks, leaving him dead on the spot.
Afroza Akter, wife of Azim, was also injured while trying to save her husband. On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
Police also arrested two alleged perpetrators’ wives-Eti Begum, wife of Mizan Mia and Sikha Begum, wife of Ismail from the spot.
