Joynal Abedin Khan :In the latest incident of terror attack, a prison guard in uniform was seriously injured when criminals chopped him in the back on his way to the post office in Faridpur district on Wednesday afternoon. The victim identified as Asaduzzaman came under attack of the miscreants while he along with a colleague was going to city post office riding a motor bike at around 3pm, police said. According to the police, the miscreants stabbed him with a blade on the back. Soon after the incident, the miscreants fled the scene. No arrest was made in this connection till the time of filing this report at 8:00 pm yesterday.Following the sudden attack, the Department of Prisons has intensified security measures in and outside the prisons across the country to avert further untoward incidents. At the same time, Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General Syed Iftekhar Uddin has ordered all prison guards to wear civil dress when carrying out a task outside the jail premise.Elaborating the incident, IG [Prisons] said: “Two prison guards were heading towards the post office from Faridpur central jail on a motorbike. Of them, a prison gurad was injured when miscreants conducted an attack on them from back side with a sharp blade.”I suspect that there might be a connection between the attack on prison guard and Tuesday’s attack on a military police (MP) in capital’s Kochukhet area,” he said. Meanwhile, miscreants are frequently conducting attacks targeting the security forces, bloggers and secular men across the country. There is widespread speculation that they are conducting killing, assaulting, kidnapping and threatening people in a bid to create anarchy in the country. Even, the Home Ministry categorically blamed the activists of some political parties for such attacks. Only a day earlier, Samidul Islam, a lance corporal of Military Police (MP), was injured after being hacked with a machete by a man in the Kachukhet area near Dhaka Cantonment around 9:30am on Tuesday.On November 4, three motorbike-riding miscreants killed a member of Industrial Police and injured another in Ashulia near Dhaka. Also an assistant sub-inspector of police at a check post was hacked to death near the Parabat Cinema in Dhaka’s Gabtoli on October 22. In Pabna, the SI Sujaul Islam was killed by unidentified miscreants at Pakshi under Ishwardi upazila in the district on October 5.It is not the end. A new list of targets has been uploaded on the internet allegedly by Ansar Al Islam, the same militant group that previously claimed responsibility for the murders of several secular individuals and threatening Dhaka University Professor emeritus Anisuzzaman.The list was uploaded to the text-sharing site Justpaste. It on Tuesday. The list contained the names of 34 secular activists, bloggers and writers – most of them live in Bangladesh and some of them are now living abroad.Requesting not to be named, an intelligence official yesterday said, “Miscreants have planned to conduct serial attacks on cops, intellectual personnel, teachers, journalists, writers, bloggers and progressive men who believe in the spirit of the Liberation War. We have asked the government to strengthen security for them.”It is also alleged that most of the victims did not get security from the law enforcing agencies before they came under attack of assailants. The concerned circle also expressed deep concern over the deterioration of law and order situation in the country with the increase of violent and bloody incidents.In this backdrop, Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, “We are proving adequate security to everyone who came to us for safety. Police escort has also been provided for many in their offices and houses.”About SMS or email threat, he said, “We have already advised every victim to file GDs and not to panic over these threats.”At least six bloggers, including Avijit Roy, so far have been killed in the city and outside of the capital in the last eight months. Hones after the serious stabbing a publisher (of Avijit Roy’s books) and two other writers in the city’s Lalmatia area, the miscreants stabbed to death another publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan at Aziz Super Market at Shahbagh in the city on October 31.
