A week long ‘Ekushey Book Fair -2021’ was inaugurated on Saturday as part of country’s Golden Jubilee celebration of Independence as well as the birth centenary of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The theme of this year’s book fair is ‘At Anay Jiboner Alo Kena’ (Purchasing light of life in 50 pennies), reports BSS.
Faridpur district administration and Gyaner Alo Trust have jointly organized the programme at the historic Ambika Memorial hall premises of the town.
Helaluddin Mahmud Sharif, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) of Dhaka inaugurated the fair at 10:30 a.m.
A discussion meeting was held presided by Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarker.
The program was addressed by additional SP Jamal Pasha,Faridpur Pourashava Mayor Amitav
Bose,Sadar upazila Chairman Abdur Razzak Molla, principal of govt Rajendra College Mosharrof Ali, principal of Bismillah Fazil Madrasha Md Kamruzzaman, associate professor of Govt Rajendra college Rezvi Zaman,Sheccha Sebok League president Shawkot Ali Zahid, among others.
The discussants emphasized on reading books for enlightening oneself as well as the country with the power of knowledge.
A total of 32 stalls have been set up in the fair ground. Different leading educational institutions, book sellers and socio-cultural organizations took part in the fair to display books on different writers and topics.
Cultural programmes are being held at the fair venue every evening.
