Farida Parvin receives ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’

University of Dhaka (DU) conferred this year’s ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’ on legendary folk singer Farida Parveen who received the award at a function held at Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of DU on Sunday.
Vice Chancellor of DU Md Akhtaruzzaman handed over the award as the chief guest. He also handed over the cheque worth Tk 1 lakh to Farida Parveen at the programme marking the birth anniversary (July 28) of late iconic Nazrul artiste Feroza Begum. Presided over by Treasurer and Chairperson of Feroza Begum Memorial Trust Fund Prof Kamal Uddin, DU Arts Faculty Dean Prof Abu Mohammad Delwar Hossain was also present as the special guest on the occasion.
Prof Akhtaruzzaman thanked the chairman of the ACI Foundation M Anis Ud Dowla for patronising the Feroza Begum Memorial Trust Fund and extended his hope that the next generation of the music artistes would be inspired by this endeavour.
On the other hand, Khondaker Anika Islam, a student of Music Department of DU has been nominated for the same award for achieving the highest CGPA in BA Honours. Feroza Begum’s brother M Anis Ud Dowla praised the DU authority for their initiative in his speech. He recalled the memories of singer Feroza Begum’s contribution, sacrifice and devotion towards the music.
Since 2016, DU has introduced the ‘Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal’ to keep the name of Feroza Begum alive.
